The thermostat on my Chrysler engine (350 HP) in my ‘67 Correct Craft Barracuda locked up while being commissioned this spring. Looks like I need a new thermostat. Any suggestions on where I might find a thermostat. My mechanic said they’re tough to find.

So I’m replacing my screw in stat this weekend with a great conversion kit. Part number 2846215k (go2marine). And the oem stat for kit is 2600699 and same design newer version is cm-29-3675303. My boat is the 67 Ski Nautique with a Chrysler 318. So probably same issue. Be careful not to snap bolthead off 50 yr old housing. Good luck it is well worth that old equipment gone and start with fresh bolts

Sorry for the naive question... how can I tell if it’s a 383 or 440?

My 318 is 225hp. So a 350hp should be bigger. Engine casting numbers under heads on right side (right looking at motor front)). But I looked at marine express schematic I do not see a 383/440 option. Only 273,318,340. Could be the stat kit 2846215k fits all 60-74 Chrysler marine Figure out what motor you have and call tech dept at marine parts sources MPS to verify stat compatibility I replaced my screw-in stat and housing last night fits great with minor hose reroute. Also look for part number on your number intake manifold might help narrow down
Did you google thermostat 2846215k |

Rafe,
Where did you come up with the 350 HP? Most Cuda's had the 318's For a T stat, you are better off converting with the kit that Daryn mentioned. Here's another source. conversion kit This kit: Thermostat housing kit Used on all Chrysler V8 engines from 1968 to 1974 Replaces screw-in themostat used from 1960 to 1968 Includes thermostat, housing, hose and tee assembly |

Good timing. I had that exact stat fail last week. Pics are exactly like mine. Really like new normal stat for replacement availability. BE CAREFUL removing old bolt. If you strip 9/16. The next down is14mm. If bolts snaps, we’ll chat again good luck

Thank you all for the feedback. I am ordering the stat kit!
I am also told I need to replace the Jabsco water pumps. Any suggestions for ordering the proper pumps? |

Rafe,
Most likely what you have heard is to replace the rubber impellers and not the complete pump. Here's a recent post with a link to the impellers.
How about some pictures of the Cuda? I and I know others would love to see it. |

Mine has a Sherwood D65 pump. But always check impellers first. There made to be replaced and.expensive brass body reused. However we do share same engine block casting. First year LA318 cool. Pictures please |

Pete and other grand poobahs here have saved my rear couple times. So happy to pass along knowledge that worked for me. I’m just learning about these Chrysler marine motors too. You will figure it out, if your diligent you can find parts you need. Enjoy

I'm not sure re: the shifter and throttle control... I purchased her used and the owner didn't have much information. I am eager to replace the stat and pumps so I can get her back in the water!

The SS? Mustangs and Barracudas were available in a SS trim which were buckets and the center console. |
