I can't tell what you think is wrong in the pictures.

The grooving where the seal rides is plenty visible but only you know how deep it is and I can't tell if the splines are messed up or something.

Was it off to replace the rear seal?

Damon,
You must have added the second picture after the first? I only saw the picture of the splines and like Ken didn't see what you thought was wrong. Now, the groove. I too ask if it's were the seal rides? If so, I wouldn't go for a new coupling but just Speedi Sleeve the existing.

yes I pulled the coupling to replace the seal even though it wasnt leaking but since i had the prop coupling off to replace the prop shaft gland I figured I would replace the seal to keep me from having to take all of this apart again if it was to start leaking in the near future. it's never been replaced.

when I took it off I noticed that the splines have considerable wear on their leading edge even tho the splines of the output shaft still looked new.   I posted the picture of the whole coupling just as a reference to what I was working on.

it is kind of hard to see from the picture of the splines. follow the spline from front to back and you'll see the lip. maybe

the link to the picture of the splines is the work 'link' in original post.

its aggravating for some reason the upload pic button does not work using my phone. only button tht responds is the hyper link

Will ya look at that, me and Pete agreed,

Whether we're right or wrong, I'm going out to buy a couple of lottery tickets.

I'll split my winnings with ya if I win Pete
