1600 roadster in silver metallic over black leather. Wire wheels. My dad and I restored it 20 years ago. I spun the #3 rod bearing over this past summer so it’s currently apart. I’m building a high compression 1800 MGB engine along with a 5spd trans. Should be running in the spring.

I clicked the link listed towards the top of this thread this morning and a case of 6 is only $12.65. Bought 2 cases last week at the $17 price and ordered 2 more cases this morning.

Duane,
Have you gotten in on the great price yet? If not, notice the second round is still a great deal.

What oil have you been using?

Good thing it's out of stock. I hear it wrecks engines.

Oil is overrated. I have an 07 Silverado with 6.0 bought new. 300k+. Pumped it dry of oil at 90 miles and once again around 200k. Changed oil it in 5x and filter 4x. At 220k I discovered the oil fill cap was missing so I stuck a grocery bag and rubber band on it for another 80k. I think there’s alot of oil myths out there.

Note-I do not do this abuse to my boats.

Pete, Received 12 quarts this morning and earlier this morning ordered twelve more. Total of 24 quarts. Will hold me a while. (takes me about 70 qts. to change oil in everything---- although not all VR-1 )

Duane,
So what's your other choice with oil? With your engine knowledge, I value your opinion.

Tough question Pete.   All depends upon the vehicle.   Several still have flat tappet cams and therefore I prefer high zinc content oils   I lean more towards full synthetics in the motor home and my everyday current model drivers. I change oil at 3500 to 4000 mile intervals and always use a new filter   Some say "overkill" but that is what I like to do. Clean oil is the ticket to engine like. Dirt ( and acids) wears parts out quicker than anything. I keep the airplane oil so clean that it is sometimes hard to see on the dip stick.
Appreciate your comment on knowledge. ALSO bear in mind that our engines in the drag car only lasted about 5 seconds before catastrophic failure. We used 50 gallons of oil during a 3 day weekend and that was 80 or 90 weight synthetic racing oil Destroying 10 engines in that timeframe. Nitro Methane at 95% harms a lot of parts!!!

Anyway thanks for the heads up on this oil deal. Duane
Always fun chatting with you

Just to get the car to go down the track and not tear up anything except what we called "consumables" would run around $35000+ for the 3 days. That's not counting food, lodging, crews wages, air fare, expenses to get the hauler there and back , entry fees or anything else.
(50 gallons oil, 125 gallons fuel, 10 oil filters, over 1 set rear tires, 60 to 80 pistons, 60 to 80 rods, same for bearings and rings, ect ect ect)

I think I am about 50 or 60 qts and everything is different weights and requirements !!!!

It makes more varnish/sludge than others typically is what I was referring to.

Ross,
Is this from your own observation with tearing down engines? If so, how many have you found sludge'd up?

out of a dozen similar engines all the valvoline or quaker state engines had sludge or scored bearings more than others. all of similar rpm range, maintenance and hour level. Seeing what I have seen about as good as a fram filter.

I put it in the oil pan. Not sure what pan is on my 351, but that’s what it takes to be at the full mark on the dipstick. Might have been closer to 7.5qt.

Pete, Pete, Pete

Your memory ain't what it used to be. Check the links below

There have been at least a few people on here who have had a big oil pan on their 351w, all from the early 70's in the days when PCM was a division of Waukesha.

But.............just like the elusive Bigfoot nobody seems to have gotten a picture of one and posted it on CCF.

Users bobcycleb, jeffware, and rmccauley all seem to have vanished, I think they were attacked and swallowed up by their giant oil pans while they were trying to get a picture..

Maybe Zwoobah can successfully get a picture of his and post it here. His engine is from about the same time period probably.. Be careful Zwoob.

I think his boat is shrink wrapped till spring though and I don't think it's a Waukesha/ PCM marinization either.

Just like Bigfoot, they're out there , never successfully captured and photographed
