Resin needs

I noticed that they had a polyester that they say if for marine use. A lot of guys on here say to go with Epoxy. Thoughts? I'm new at this and I want to make sure I can get the most bang for my buck and still have a good solid boat.

Taking this into account, take our general preference for epoxy and multiply by 100. No, 1000. At least. User friendliness epoxy vs poly is not in the same universe, IMHO.

Ha. Laying fiberglass is the easy/fun part. Grinding, not so much.

I don't know what kind it is. I've had it forever. I replaced it with a 2 1/2 hp dewalt. That thing is awesome! If I had known it would be that much easier with that big grinder I would've bought it when I started.

Stringer are out and fiberglass is ground down. That foam was a pain in the butt but it's gone too. I plan to start cutting boards tonight and laying glass tomorrow. I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel

I'm not sure how fast I am. I already have close to 20 hours into this. I'm working on it ever chance I get because it's about to get cold (it should've gotten cold 3 weeks ago) and duck season starts a week from this Saturday. Priorities!

I tried my hardest to get the boards out in one piece. My port side stringer came out in 3 bigger pieces and lots of little ones. I didn't realize how bad they were.. This job sucks but I'm glad I'm getting it done now.

FYI on overheated grinders:
method 1) Cut the leg off the wifes panty hose (after you remove the wife from said pantyhose) and pull it over the motor vents. Blow out daily with compressed air... > mixed results.

method 2) By two el-cheapo Harbor freight grinders thing you burn both up and keep them for a decade on multiple projects cause they just wont die...> Unbelievable results.

Floor is done, engine mount is back in. I plan on cleaning on it and getting the engine back in this week. I'm really glad that this project is about over. Any ideas where to buy carpet from?

When I was doing the Mustang, the numbers were   2000/200/20   I think Eric had some influence.

Here is the rest of the story on my 92 sport ... I finished the boat this past weekend and I'm very pleased with the results! Here's a few more pics of me getting done. I will say, this was a hard job but if you're patient, and pay attention to what you're doing then I think anyone could do it.

I got the engine back in fairly easy. I was very scared that i had missed a measurement but I was able to adjust the engine easily to line up to the shaft after I cleaned up the mounting hard ware a little.


The carpet wasn't too rough, however, I wish my old carpet would've came out in one piece so that I could've used it as a form.




All back together and ready for some warm weather!


Next thing will be new upholstery. That's coming soon but I'm glad this project is over. Thanks again for all the great advise that is posted up on this forum! I love building things and working on things and I hope I can help someone down the road going through this same stuff.

I did that and flipped every picture over in my computer and it still has them upside down. This is the only forum I've ever had that happen in. I did a search online and figured out what was going on. Planet Nautique had a thread about the pic problem. Thanks though!
