I've found a 2007 SN 206 that I'm interested in. I was looking for a 196, but I was wondering about the wake on the larger 206.

I'm a slalom skier and a bit of a wake snob. My 1994 SN has OK wakes, but I like the TSC hull better.

Would the 206 be a step up from the NWZ hull? Would you recommend waiting for a 196?

The one thing that has me interested is that my kids all wakeboard...

Yes, a 206 is a step up over a no wake zone hull..

I have watched Greg Badal run 39 off on a 206. If there is an issue, it is the skier, not the wake.

But, of course, 97 and newer Ski Nautique or 196 are better than a 206 for slalom wake, no question. The question is, does it really make that much difference at your skiing level.

If you're a wake snob, I'd agree with Todd, go with a 196.

The wake of the 206 is very load sensitive.... It can be a great wake..
If you are on a private lake, with no need to take many people out... I'd ignore the rest of your family, especially your significant other, and get a 196.

The TSC3 with the wake gate will put up a wake. I think I'd tell the kids to start slalom or buy half of a 206 before I give up a dedicated slalom tractor.. I understand late model Responses can be set up decent for wake boarding and of course they have an excellent slalom wake. And prices dropping with their all new hull coming out for Christmas.

Not sure I understand that, owned and skied both hulls and the 206 TSC is a better slalom wake then the NWZ, slalom tractor cannot have an open bow??

Maybe a stripped down 206 is good but not the usual tower, tanks, stereo loaded up version.

The 206 wakeboard wake is far more disappointing than its slalom wake however. I don't think either party will be satisfied.

Get the 196 and let the kids deal with it or buy their own 2001.

I suspect the gated 206 will have a much nicer wakeboard wake (slightly larger and MUCH more defined) than a non-gated boat.

I've been in several 206's, though haven't slalomed one seriously. The wake sure looks larger than my NWZ, particularly at slower speeds. Sarie could confirm. Im surprised by how different the 196 and 206 wakes are.

I also found the 206 wake to be larger than I expected. I didn't think the wake was much if any better than my sport, but in defense of the 206 I was comparing a towered 206 vs. my non-tower sport. And, also like my sport the 22 off bump is brutal, at least at 32 where I tend to ski.

Not a bad wake, and I skied behind one quite a bit, but not in the same conversation as a 196.

I think HW's point about speakers, and all the other crap is good one. Most of the 206s I see in open water are loaded up as if a wakeboard boat, which is negative effect on slalom wake.
