Well I call Son Water Sport in Anoka MN up the other day just to bs with Dave and he said the words for the day are 1984 Barefoot Nautique. At that point I said he had my full attention and what gives. he said that he just found that a 84 BFN might be coming up for sale and that was all the info that he had. I asked him to keep me posted. A week late he calls me back and said that the boat was at the store if I wanted to look at it. So I go take a look it has a few problems there is water in the oil, the floor is going to need some work the hull will need to be wet sanded and buffed out and the blue stips need to be repainted. The trailer is real solid but the paint is faded. So now the boat is at my house waiting till sping then I will start the resto. A boat i always wanted.

Interior and carpet were obviously redone but not untastefully.

I traded notes with that seller, looks like it has a lot of potential! I think he got scared off when I told him that water in the oil was unlikely to be a cheap head gasket fix. I bet he ended up giving the boat away- hope you picked it up for a song. With any luck it just needs an exhaust manifold rather than a new block. I may have a spare if that turns out to be the case. Keep us up to date with your plans and progress!

Yes the motor is the big question mark. I will dig into that first and I did get it for a great price.

Nice score!!! Contrats! Get that thing all shiny and that will be one heck of a looker. There's just something about the tri color blue 80s boats.

Worst case we have that running 88 Footer 454 here at the shop ready to rock.

I thought you worked in the parts dept zach. You're sounding more like a sales guy every day!

Nice find! Dave seems like a really nice guy. I get a phone call from him every few months just to catch up and talk boats. Never met in person but he seems to take a genuine interest in keeping up with our stuff and looking out for things we need.

All of the exhaust hose needs to be replaced. It has mufflers looks like one newer one and one older one. So do I keep the mufflers or do I put in copper pipes. I have copper straight pipes on my 1976 SN with 351 and it really sounds nice. Is any one running straight pipes on their 454 and how is the sound.

Wow!! I have an 84 BF, it's been many years since I've seen another one in the same colors!! There are not many 84s left let alone in the blues! mine is just like yours!! So cool! Do you have any idea the value of a decent 84 BF 454?? Do you mind if I ask what you paid?

It will sound great with straight pipes! I really like how a straight piped 454 sounds at idle, very deep tone.

We'll I moved the Barefoot into the garage to start working on it. I wanted to see if the motor would run so I dropped the old oil and there was water in it. I took off the RWP and started it dry. We'll it runs now I just have to find out how the water got in there. Very happy it runs. http://youtu.be/wukUEvsvm5c

Did a compression test on the motor today #1 cylinder was at 100lbs the rest were 135 to 138 so next weekend the head comes off. Hopefully just need to replace the head gasket.
