I was confused on the inside out comment as well!

Gary, are you talking about the standard Cipa Comp? CC (and many other manufacturers) used their M1C (7x14) for many years... at least '87-09. The mounts changed several times during that period though- I am not sure if the mount you need is CC specific or not. SkiDIM does not list any of the mounts (windshield or otherwise) that CC used, so I suspect that may be the case.

Tim got the dimensions right. What kind of photo do you need?

Got my blue tubing from McMaster-Carr and I installed it that night. I don't have any photos yet, but I think it looks great! The cost was $51.26, including shipping. Hopefully this summer I'll be able to report back on the durability of the tubing as a rub rail.

I will say this - I definitely made the right choice in going with the more flexible (but still relatively rigid) tubing. It took a good amount of effort to install it. It was easy, but it just took a bit more time than I imagined. It fits into the rub rail very securely but it took some doing to get it into the areas around the corners where the rub rail tends to pinch a bit.

Onward!

Yes. Sorry about the early confusion. I got the choose-a-color PVC, 5/8" OD. 50 feet of tube left a few extra feet at the end of my 1993 Ski Nautique. I will get some photos posted eventually.

Fair enough. Took some pictures with my camera phone, and it is in my garage so the lighting isn't the best:

In this last image you can see the extra length of hose that is slung up and over the back of the boat:

You can also see some great images there of the massive amount of gelcoat work I still have to do on this boat...

It is definitely lighter than the gel color. The too-stiff Poly tubing was closer, but still not an exact match. It looks quite good in person. Unless you were looking for it I doubt that somebody will say, "Hey, that is a different color." It would have made me feel better if it were a shade or two darker to match the gel, but for $50 I'm extremely pleased. If we can source a run of actual blue Rub Rail from Taco Marine, I'll definitely sign up, but until that happens I'm quite pleased with the results.

When I get the boat outside and in more natural light I'll take some more photos. Note that this event in the great Northwest is likely months away.

If you like the color insert try to find rope in the desired color. The fade factor may be much less. I originally did this with black on my 98 but it looked like a fatter rub rail. I went to the traditional three braid white and like the look. It was one of the things I had missed when I moved up from an 87 to a 98. It looks like it was factory installed and retains the classic Correct Craft feel.

Kevin (harddock) - could you post some pictures of what this looks like on your boat? If my McMaster-Carr solution does not last long for some reason I would be curious to try your solution. If we had an idea of what it looks like on a newer boat that would be helpful. I'm glad you found a good solution.

Wow, look what I started... We need some pictures from the folks who have used this idea on their boats. Mine is still a little work away from seeing daylight, although a rogue 70 degree and sunny day in April here in the Seattle area has me ITCHING to get the carpet down and get this boat in the water!

I ordered the red and went to do it this summer. Got about 5 feet into it and did not like the fit, just way too loose. Combine that with it being softer and gummier than the original I felt like if I parked next to a pier post the insert could roll out with the up and down wave action. I ended up putting the replacement black one back in.

I was doing some digging and seeing if I could find some cheaper options for rub rails for my boat.

I managed to find these two products from Barbour Plastics.

F92021 Uniflex Rubrail.
F725 Rub Rail Insert

As far as I can tell these are the correct replacement Rub Rails and inserts for the 1987 to 2005 boats.

The F725 is the rub rail insert and is sold at http://www.integritymarinecorp.com/. Here is a link
Insert
Rub Rail

The insert comes in various colors including
Black, Dark Blue, Laser Blue, Charcoal Grey and Platinum.

Unfortunately the website doesn't give examples on the colors but the prices are low enough that somebody looking for a color insert may be willing to take a chance to see if they match the original colors..

Overall the cost is around half for the rail and insert what I have found elsewhere.
