Bill,
I like the rubber. Even without the consideration of the corrosion issue, I use the rubber for vibration isolation.

What John doesn't know is the strapping is copper plated steel. So, I'll have to ask him to look at his periodic table again and see how far apart steel is to aluminum!! The copper plated strap is meant for plumbers hanging copper pipe. I've seen the thin copper plating disappear in less than a year.

Oh boy! Big day today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   It floats and it goes zoooooom! Took the Mustang down to Melrose to Outlaw marine. Don installed the throttle and shift cables. after that was done he talked me in to a strainer system for the raw water. That pretty much took up the day. Then we headed out to the secret test lake. With the rescue boat standing by we headed out onto the water and gently idled around.

ZOOOOOM!!!!

Bill,
Sorry if I missed if you did mention it, but what prop dia. are you running? It looks very close to the hull so do expect prop rash.

It's running an ACME 540. When we reset the position of the motor, we tried to get the prop in the best position for clearance. After seeing the look on Don's face when he punched it the first time, I think it was the right choice. I am going to run the prop for awhile and monitor the gelcoat just above it. If it starts showing wear I will make adjustments, but apparently right now its a beast!

The biggest issue right now is the damn carb. Its still continuing to drip gas after shutdown. I have had it back to the re manufacturer All American Carburetor 4 times for adjustment during the rebuild of the engine..

13" props like the 540 leave insufficient hull clearance on the 16' hulls. The 12.5" version (1210) is the appropriate prop.

I would caution setting up shaft/strut/engine geometry based on hull clearance- especially when using the incorrect prop.

Another busy day. Got the aft floor panel cut out, glassed, cpes'd and gel coated. Installed the engine cover. Made some seat mounting pads for the front seats and glassed them to the floor, then gel coated the fore deck. Also got the guide on poles attached to the trailer.

Starting carpet glue battle part 2. Front kick has excessive amounts of rock hard carpet glue on it. I really want to save it and re gelcoat the diamond pattern. Bought some sentinel 747 remover and it seems to be working well. Going to be slow going.

Round 1 complete.

Wow! No damage at all to the gel coat diamond pattern. Just a few existing holes to patch.

Lots more work on the Mustang! I touched up the kick panel and then gel coated it a pretty close match to the Bimini blue seadek I have on order.

Tried tuning the rebuilt carb and after shooting a 6 foot flame in the air and catching carb on fire, we decided to replace it with a new one. Picked up the Ford 600 cfm holley marine. 0-80319-1. Installed it and Snoopy purrs like a lion.

Got the engine cover, ski pole and seats all installed for testing. Still have to pull them out to put in another coat of gel on the deck and then sea deck.

Went out today for a test run to Lake Alto in Waldo, FL. I had a rescue boat standing by. Of course everything went great until we put the rescue boat up and went for a ride. I was running about 36mph at 3400 rpm and heard a couple of loud pops. @#$%. Shut it down and found the water pump belt thrown and some of the metal cords popped.

We put it back on and limped back to the ramp with a windy storm chasing us. Headed to the mechanic a few miles away and we think the belt was damaged during storage/installation. Put on a new belt courtesy of Outlaw marine. The storms cleared after some lunch and finished up the day zooming around Lake Alto.

I managed to get the final coat of white gelcoat on the floor. The front side panels are in, going to do something more to give some storage area behind them.

The stereo is installed. Just an amp really with some 8 inch tower speakers tucked up in the bow and a stereo input jack mounted under the dash. . I will run a mp3 player or maybe get a bluetooth box so people can play tunes from their phones. The amp is a Pyle Hydra and has a nice remote volume control that I installed next to the throttle. Should be great for skiing.

Got the front kick into place and most of the seadek pads installed in the front of the boat.

Thanks for all the kind words. So much work still to go.

I headed down to Tampa for some help with carpentry and engine tuning. The engine started to run poorly and wouldn't idle.

Checking the timing, it kept drifting all around. Turns out the rotor from the mallory e-spark points replacement kit was defective. The distro is a prestolite. The replacement rotor has a little metal cup that fits on the shaft of the distro. After lots of head scratching, I figured out that the little metal clip that fits on the flat spot on the distro shaft was bending and allowing the rotor to twist on the shaft. Cheap chinese crap! No one has that rotor in stock and is f-ing $50! I cut two small pieces off a nylon cable tie and wedged them behind the clip so it could not flex. Put it all back together. My Uncle tuned the carb up and the engine runs better than ever!!!!! Turn the key, starts right up :) Ran it up and down the Hillsbourough river. Backed it off the trailer and drove it back on without a single problem.

Did a lot of carpentry. I built and covered the side panels. Built a small base for the rear bench, cut the seat and foam and rear support.

Check off another fine example of EI conversion reliability! Why did you ever install it to begin with? Hopefully it wasn't their hype of supposed performance gains!! Put the damn point set back in.

Took the Mustang out today on the Ortega river. Everything went perfectly, except I got a pretty good sunburn. Met a really nice guy with a 1965 all wood cuddy cabin Chris Craft and we talked for an hour!

I built a base for the rear seat and glassed in a small cooler. Just fits about 5 water bottles laying on their sides and a few ice cubes. Will also have some room for ski lines. Built the lower seat cushion and Mom worked her magic to sew up a nice cover.

I put in most of the Seadek, just need to do the last bit on rear deck. I also made a template and cut some step pads out. I really like them. Very comfortable on my throttle arm and no hot metal to deal with. Would be insanely cool if I could get Seadek to cut the cc logo in to them.

It's just so awesome to actually do some boating. I'm going to have to learn to stay off the throttle, the 302 likes to drink gas. Currently have 5 hours on the meter!

Quite a bit of boat related activities the last few days. Thursday put another hour and a half on the engine. Ran flawlessly.

Headed down to Tampa to check out my new sewing machine a light commercial Family Sew. Got some help from Mom and sewed up the cover for the rear bench. Should be done with interior when thats in.

Stopped by the water ski hall of fame and saw the 1954 Atom Skier. Really neat to see up close! So many design elements I can see carried through to the Mustang.
Stopped at Downtown Disney on the way home and surprise! They have 5 fully restored amphicars. For $125 you can take a ride around the lake for half an hour with up to 3 people.

Forgot to add. I installed the rubber rub rail with black rope insert, I really like it. Also buffed out the hull.

Silver bow light is just temporary until I restore original.

8/6/2015 DONE!

Took the boat out today to test everything after removing the gas tank to install ski platform brackets. I also cut in the rear vents and wired in the all around light socket and bilge blower.   Everything checked out just fine. Found some shade and put in the rear panel and bench seat.   Then ran down to redneck beach and took some pics. Ran into a Michigan wreck diver who loved the boat and bs'd for an hour.

Took it home and scrubbed it down. Then I realized it's completely ready to go skiing just add fuel and water.

I also crossed my first Super Air Nautique surfing wake. That thing was throwing 3 foot rollers, I could have dropped in and ridden it to shore. When I crossed it I was about 300 ft behind the oncoming boat and as far across the creek as I could get. I slowed down to about 15 mph and had my bow way up. Water still came over the bow and doused me. Nearly swamped.

No! Not a totally practical platform on a pre-77! Blasphemy. I have to admit, my favorite non original Correct Craft.

Had a get together at lake Alto today. The last 3 boat owners! L to R. Jim 2002 to 2013. Me 2013 now. Chris 1982 to 2002! Great day, maybe 1 day I might smile in a picture. Jim 74 did 2 Barefoot runs. Chris hadn't skied in 20 years, borrowed Jim's suit and did 5 nice barefoot runs. I just drove, not quite ready to ski yet, soon!
