I have done a search of the archives, and I think I already know the answer, but is there anything marine specific about the ignition coil? I am thinking no as everything I have read referances the distributor, starter, carb, etc...but nothing about the coil.

Thought better safe than sorry.

Thanks,
Adam

Auto ones wont blow you up, but may not stand up to the vibration or heat. Whatever you use should also be able to be mounted on an angle, some oil filled are not happy about that.

So the one that DIM sells is actually made for marine use, not just an automotive unit for $40 bucks more?

Adam I see you've got the boat up on e-bay. Are you going boatless for a while or getting a new/old one?

Actually looking to get a v-drive. Have been boarding a lot lately and want to get something with ballast and tower. The sport has been very good to me, but I am not emotionally attached to it or anything. Put a lot of elbow grease into cleaning it up this past weekend and actually thought about changing my mind. It still looks really, really good!

I could probably sell it with the problem I got and the buyer would not know the difference for a while, but I can not be that guy. I hate dishonest or not the whole truth people. For $30, it is not worth my good name (so far).

6 months ago I installed an Accel 8140C coil, it performed great with the prestolite EI but I just found it's leaking into the intake... wonder if the unit came defective or it's just not that good for marine applications.

Good question. I ended up getting a replacement from White Lake for $30. Same unit as DIM.

Doc, does Karen have a website yet?
