Recently, I was fortunate enough to pick up an '88 Barefoot Nautique in Dallas TX, and not surprisingly, with a lot of help from several CCFans. After a few conversations with the PO and a bunch of pictures, the boat seemed good enough to take a gamble on. The PO was very motivated to sell which didn't give me or anyone else enough time to take a look in person. To make matters worse, there was local interest in the boat but the owner honored the fact that I contacted him first and we proceeded with the deal. I made arrangements with the PO to drop the boat off at Buxton Marine, a Nautique dealer in Lewisville, TX, upon the recommendation of Ryan Robinette (SN206).

Buxton Marine provided excellent service and took great care of the boat while it waited to be picked up. They winterized the motor, changed the bearings, cleaned the brakes, and got me a new spare tire on very short notice so the boat could be brought back to NC where it will be for the winter.

Everything the PO told me about the boat's condition was 100% true and confirmed by both Buxton Marine and Reid Pinkham who picked the boat up for me.

The boat is entirely original other than the depth finder and speakers that were hung instead of drilled into the gunwales. Besides a minor pin hole in the motor box and a scuff mark on the drivers seat the interior is just about perfect. The gel coat, decals, and pin stripes are also in excellent shape. The 454 has 377 hours on it that were acquired mostly before 2001-2002. With a change of gas and tune up the boat should be good to go!

Several BFNs caught my eye over the past 6-7 months and fortunately they did not work out. Thanks to all that helped in the search and for making this deal happen. I would not have ended up with this boat if it werent for the combined efforts of Reid, Hollywood, TRBenj, SN206, and Buxton Marine. Without my Dad's (Riley's) help there is no way I would have had the patience to hold out for this one.
