I’m quite sure just about anyone that’s ever visited this site with any regularity is familiar with how this boat came about; from its insightful inception, through its edge-of-your-seat documentation of the construction process, and finally to its much-anticipated unveiling in Lake George last September. It was a process that so many special individuals on this great website had a hand in, and the final product was something that everyone was and continues to be proud of.

How the infamous Orange Crush ended up with me however, is not quite as spectacular a story, but nonetheless one that bears telling and which several are familiar with. From the very minute that Keith announced the concept at Green Lake in 2008, I was in awe, and was immediately on the phone, during the banquet, rounding up a strategic group of loyal Correct Craft partners to take possession of what at the time was still somewhat an incomprehensible dream and vision. I even sat down with Keith that evening and expressed our sincere interest in this his newest CCFan brainchild. Lost in all my initially uncontrolled but soon bridled excitement was the fact that this boat mostly, more than all other things considered, is a Correct Craft Fan trademark.

I believe all of us, as Correct Craft Fan members, felt that this boat was destined for a lifetime in the rightful and caring hands of Correct Craft Fan and Keith Bagley. Everyone thought and hoped also that Correct Craft could somehow see fit to facilitate this happening, since Correct Craft Fan has been such an obvious ally and benefit to the Corporation. But possibly because of the declining economic times, changing corporate strategies and mentalities, and who knows whatever other mitigating circumstances, the hoped-for transition of ownership was just not going to happen.

I had kept in contact with Keith all during the latter build stages as discussions proceeded about CCFan ownership, and finally just 2 weeks prior to the Lake George event, Keith called and delivered the somber news that if someone else was interested, such as me, the boat would be theirs. So if there was ever some bittersweet news, this was it.

After making a splash at Lake George, the Orange Crush 409 as she’s affectionately known to almost everyone, made her way south to Lake Norman, NC, where she sits proudly like a queen on display, overseeing a handful of other Correct Crafts at the BBC boat garage.

Not too many boats receive the compliments this one has. We’ve only had the boat out twice locally, but did pull her down to the St Johns River in Florida for that hugely successful Correct Craft Fan gathering this past February. And as part of our goal as owner, we’ll endeavor to have her available for everyone to enjoy at as many CCFan events as possible, including Green Lake this July and Lake George in September.

So come on out to a reunion and experience the way this boat runs, and run she does, compliments of the 409 HP 6.0 liter PCM engine. Top speed thus far has been a GPS recorded 57.1 mph while flying down the St Johns, flanked by and holding her own against two of CCF’s fastest vintage Correct Crafts, and with 3 Correct Craft fans grinning ear to ear across the back seat,. A time not soon forgotten. But there’s also plenty of low-end power for deepwater barefoot starts as witnessed at Lake George ‘08.

Basically the boat accomplishes everything that everyone had hoped for plus more, and with an unparalleled appearance and attitude, handed down from years of classic Ski Nautiques that have come before her. We will all be proud of this boat for many, many years to come.

While I love this boat as much as anyone, during my ownership I will always have this satisfactory feeling that I’m somehow the honorary keeper, for however long, of a piece of Correct Craft history, and with hope that one day, sooner or later, and possibly thru the efforts of many of us on this special site, we can send her home to everyone at Correct Craft Fan and Keith Bagley.
