We bought our Southwind from a marina in Islamorada Florida in 1989. At that time it only had an engine cover. There were no seats or carpeting. I was looking for a good hull, so the interior, or lack of, was not a problem. I had an interior put in, and at the same time I installed a new out of the crate 351 Ford Marine engine.
After 850 hours the engine with heat exchanger still works great. I can get about 41 mph with any load in the boat. It has pulled up 7 adults on skis and we pulled, with a bit of difficulty on the start, 14 teenagers. It's also a great wake board boat with its fairly deep v and you don't need any ballast bags to get a good ride in rough water. It's a great boat design. I don't know why Correct Craft doesn't still have this type of boat for sale.
I re-gel coated the deck in 2000 using a sprayer with a pressurized paint cup. It worked great and still looks new, but does take a lot of wet sanding. I did a lot of work over 2019 to refresh all of the mechanics. AND
Our boat now has a new home with my son Jason, his wife Rachel, and my grandsons Cameron and Oliver. It is getting a lot more use and if a boat can be happy it is.
