If I were to make these available for $35.00 each, would you want one? To get the price that low I would have to make a minimum of 20 or so. I can drop the price more if more people are interested during the initial order.

What are you going to make them out of Tim?....Lexan, Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber, Acrylic?

Lexan or Kydex

I have seen a few variations, mine is smoke lexan/acrylic.

Do you have a preference?

Once we do the tooling, it would not be a big deal to have a couple different materials.

That initial price may drop by as much as half depending on the number of people, I just need enough to absorb the tooling cost from the get go.

No, I was just curious as I have already made a replacement lid for mine out of CF. I posted pics under glove box lid if you do a search.

here's the ref.

Yeah, I saw that. But the price of CF is so high and the time it takes to make them is not worth my time.

I couldn't agree more. Messy job laying it up then sanding it down.

$35 vs. $140+ no brainer, count me in for a backup...it's funny that this just came up, amy scratched mine saturday?!!?

mine is smoked plexi I think...and even from cc it took some 'fitting'

Oh god a scratch! Ours is tore off the hinge, and cracked across the width where the key/latch is. Kind of just "sits" in place, but does it's job.

If it fits properly I'd surely drop $40 on one.

Yea Hollywood, a whole scratch   LOL   mine was only a hinge and a small sliver of plastic when I got the boat...the $140 cc replacement took some engineering as well...not plug and play

I smacked a mud dobbler and he dropped his mud ball right on top...amy was trying to help, but wiped it off dry

Keegan, I think the glove boxes changed sizes in 90. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

Behindpropeller,
Are they going to be smoked like the originals, and will we have to swap our lock and latch units out from the old to the nw?

Dan-

I can give you mesurements, so you can check.

87BFN- Yes, you will have to swap out the locks. I will plan on sending them out with a new locking ring washer though.

Probably will do 10-20 smoked and then another 10 in another color, depends what people want. Color is not as big of cost as the initial tooling.

I have not made them, wanted to see if I could spread the tooling cost out enough.

Yes, you would have to use your original hinge.

I have an 89 2001, but the latch is centered in mine...

I'm also interested... shipping costs will be a bit more than for the rest of my friends here

Guys-

I have all of the costing for these done. I need a count of how many people are serious. I will be offering a discount for those that commit early. So here is the schedule:

Now till April 15th, just drop me an email if you want one. Once I have 12 people committed I will pull the trigger on building the tooling.

Any orders before May 1st will get their cover for $36.00 shipped (lower 48) if paying cash (money order or bank check), $40.00 if using paypal.

After May 1 the cost will be $42.00 (money order/bank check) or $46.00 paypal.

All covers will be made out of smoked lexan as original. All holes will be CNC cut to original. The covers will include a new lock ring/washer for your lock. I am not including the correct craft sticker at this time.

Please drop me an email: tim.cochrane@gmail.com with "Glove Box Cover" in the subject line. I need the year of your boat (lock in middle or lock offset to side) and your name, phone, shipping address.

Tim

Count me in. Will you have paypal available?

Also freight to Australia no rush ordinary post should be fine. Cost?

If your dollar keeps going down it will be US$1=AUS$1
Currently about 92 cents. On my last trip to the US it was around 50 cents that really hurt.

If the '84 uses the same style "glove box" as the '86 (no lid), then all you have to do is add the lid and its the same as my '90.

I am guessing the 84 is like the 83 and has no hole, depression, or anything approximating a glove box. My plan is in fact to buy a cover (email just sent to Tim) going to get southco find me a keylock and some stainless latches, cut a big ol hole in the dash and build a box/radio holder out of fiberglass and coosa. Don't know if the cover will actually sit cleanly on the dash, but there is one way to find out.

Post your address. Happy to ship....worldwide....as long as you are paying shipping.

For everybody else-

I have 15 people right now. Tooling is $1000 so I'm working on reducing the tooling cost so I'm not in over my head.

Gielt,

I would also like one.
Maybe we could combine our orders, so Tim can ship both covers in one box to reduce shipping costs.

And then pick them up at a central point?
Or I'll pick it up at your place...

I didn't make them. Not sure if I will since the tooling cost will make it more than my forecasted prices and I doubt people are going to spend $50.00 on these. I need to sell 20 at that price to break even.
