My buddy and me have found a 1976-1978 correct craft ski tique with motor and haul in realy good shape. we are wondering if this boat is worth the effort and money to fix up. The floor is rotten and needs to be replaced and back seat missing. Oh, and he only wants 800.00. The motor is either a 302 or 351 but the carburator is a edelbrock automotive carburator, is this ok? Any kind of comments are welcomed to help us to decide.

I think just about any Correct Craft is worth at least $800. If you have the hull & motor to start with, the floor & seats are not really that big of a deal. They just take some getting dirty to replace. If you pass, let the Correct Crafties on here know. $800..in a minute! If it runs and is in overall good shape! replacing floor no big deal... make sure stringers are good and solid...
As for rear seat, the 76 tique I used to own,just had 3 cushions setting on floor... we never used them...just sat on floor to clear ski rope... Got any pics? I would certainly do the do, of course I am a little partial to Tiques. As said above, the only caution would be stringers. I responded regarding the back seat question. The photo in the bottom of my diary entry (link below) isn't great, but you can sort of see the back seat and just how simple it can be, one thin cushion on back, one thick cushion on floor. Replace the carb. Auto carbs are NOT OK, and you will get a stiff fine. They are dangerous on a boat. Go for it! ------------- 1969 Chris Craft Commander SS #39 |

Question for Merc:
Is there really a difference in carbs between auto and marine? I always thought the only difference was the flame arrester on top. Difference in auto and marine carbs is in how the overflow is handled. Marine Carbs dump overflow into the intake and automotive carbs into the bilge. The edelbrock marine carb is also jetted different, but that could be changed. I got my tique for 700 with a cracked engine, trashed interior and in need of lots of TLC. a year later and over a few grand invested i still think it was a good deal  ------------- Thanks Bobby there's no replacement for displacement |

I just bought a 75 tique with a re-built 350 chevy long block and I would bet that it has an auto carb. It is a rocket, but I am fairly restrained when cruising. I wouldn't let teenagers drive it.
I took mine out tonight without skiiing for a 2 hour jaunt and had a half a cup of water in it from the shaft packing. I really like this little boat. With 50 hours of cosmetic work, (painting, glass, etc.) it will look perfect. Have fun with the project, It will be easier than you think if the engine is good. Jeff ------------- J Fisher |
