Anyone know where I can get good vinyl decals that mimic the stern of the late '70s, early '80s Ski Nautiques?

I have been working on this with a girl in Florida. Problem with this and other "one-off" things is the setup costs. While she hasn't gotten back with a hard number yet, the setup alone could be a couple of hundred bucks. Not worth it to me for 1. Maybe we could get several orders together to defray the costs? I worked with a couple shops up by me and they never charged me more than a 35 dollar set up fee, right now I am haveing a place do the ski nautique that is on the side of my 76.

We could use Rob's guy (Rob can you send contact info?) but we will still need a closeup photo of the stern lettering (with dimentions). I found a decent photo of what I would like. It seems close, but I'm not sure it the exact font. Can anyone else help?

Using rough guests for measurements, I have quotes from two different places - on at $43 and another at $53 per set of graphics (both lines of text). I'd like to see about a discount for ordering several.

The ladder will have to come off to install the lettering. The vinyl letters come on one large sheet that is applied intact. This is how they keep everything even. One of the other good things with this process is that you can slide the decal up or down to miss the ladder brackets. You mention both lines of text, are they also including the solid color line below the text? Any idea what colors are available? We re-did the interior with sort of a teal and burgandy for accents and would like to match one of those. Anybody do anything with the side graphics besides Rob? Don,
I just repainted my side grahics and masked off the stripe and made it solid. I'm going back with 1/8" pin stripe to create the outline like it was orignally. Also on the stern my stripes are different I have two other stripes that are inline with the compition ski boat lettering, one on each side. Keith I got the measurements this week-end and I'm going to try and lay it out on my cad system and generate a jpg. or tiff file so that it is easier to understand. But basicly they are 2" high letters for both lines and the are both 34-1/6" long the top is slanterd which makes it apear longer I didn't have a protractor to measure the slant but it is 20-30 degrees. The vertical spacing is 2-15/16". One thought I had was on mine it's pretty faded and a little wet sanding will problely remove it so if things are off a little it won't matter. Do you have any type of CAD software on your computer? CORRECT CRAFT 34-1/16" long 2-3/4" gap between words. 1/2" thick lettering.

It was '79 that gave you the dimensions, but they are very close to the ones I came up with. I will add that the rake on the letters is 60 degrees on the '78. You will also have to take me off the list, We are going to re-do the gelcoat this fall to get rid of the spider cracks so the lettering would have to be applied again. Secondly, the woman that lets me live with her is thinking about having the interior re-done (again) so I don't have a clue what accent color she will end up with. Keith, I just took some measurements on my transom. The distance between the top of my (redone) stripe and the ladder bracket is exactly 2". So, I guess I can't participate in the order.

Jameski, another option you have is unbolt the ladder hardware apply the decal and re-attach the hardware over the top of the decal. I think if Kieth's graphics guy gets the CAD layout done, he can probably reproduce it at any size. If so, I might have him cut one for me that is ~15% smaller than the original. I think that would look fine.

I'm still working on price with two different shops. Thanks to 79nautique's detailed measurments, there will be no problem repoducing an exact decal.
A shop local to me will do it for $35 per decal (plus shipping) for four decals, if we use colors he has is stock. If we go with this option I will need color samples before we order to make sure his in-stock colors will work. Ron's shop is smaller and they aren't as quick to respond to voice-mail or e-mail. They quoted me $43 per decal (plus shipping) and mentioned no restriction on color. I'll go with Ron's shop if I can confirm custom colors are okay and will try to get a 4 decal price discount. Whomever we use, I will ask about a 15% reduced graphic for jameski. I'll probably order this sometime next week. Hi,
I am new to the site and new to owning a SN. In fact, I have not received the 86 2001 that I just bought. Anyway, The boat is in need of some work, and in anticipation of receiving the boat, I have been looking around for stuff I might need for it. I'm pretty sure it will need new decals. Would it be possible for me to jump in on this deal? Let me know. Thanks, Keith |

you could try to e-mail keith [web master] but what we are ordering is the stern letters only. CORRECT CRAFT

Keith, As Kenny G explained, if you are in need of ther stern lettering that reads, "CORRECT CRAFT {new line} COMPETITION SKI BOAT" - sure. The cost is $55 if you select from the 'in-stock' colors. Custom colors go up to $110. You will find the in-stock colors earlier in this posted discussion (page 2 I believe). If you'd like to order the stern lettering, send me an e-mail with your selected color and I'll send you the mailing address for the check. If you're looking for the lettering on the side that reads, "SKI NAUTIQUE" that's a different story. My graphics guy has done it before and may still have the file. I have no idea what the cost would be. I can look into it if you like, let me know. Here's the final proof - exact to 79nautique's measurments. It looks great to me but since my boat does not already have this lettering ... 79nautique (and/or anyone else), can you proof it for me?

Whats needs to change is the top line it should extend past the lower line a little on each end. If you split it in the middle at that point the upper and lowwer lines are equal width. I can try and blow it up. If the sign shop can send a full size cgm file I can print exactly what they have and send back a modified file to correct any thing that needs corrected. I dropped your completed decals in the mail today. You should have them by this Thurs. or Fri. They look great! The decal is rolled in a tyvek envelope and shipped in a carboard tube. Installation instructions are included. Please let me know when you get them. Have you or keith put on your vinyl yet? I was wondering if you two are going over existing lettering or have a blank stern? If you are going over existing lettering how will does it match up? I usually leave my boat in the lake all season but if it match's right up and I don't have to sand off the old painted lettering I could get it done in a day and only spend a couple of hours doing it but if I have to sand the old stuff off I was going to wait a little longer. Keith the color is a perfect match and it looks realy good just don't want to get in the lake to compare it and take a chance of getting it wet before I apply it and messing it up. I have to plan a head for a truck to pull the trailer, ya I know, why have a boat and have nothing to tow it. |

No, I haven't applied mine yet - waiting for 24-hours of not using it and no rain. My boat is out of the water most of the time so it will be much easier for me. I trailer it to a nearby lake 1-2 nights per week. I already have sanded off my stern strip (no pre-existing lettering on my Mustang) so I'm working with a blank stern. My guess it you'd be better off doing it that way. The letter should be very, very close but it probably will not match perfectly to your old lettering. 79.the barracuda has a new finish.so i'll wait till the restoration is completed b4 i install the stern decals.they do look good .
