Hey All,

This idea of getting together in the North East is snowballing - thanks Larry. We've got Keith's interest and Craig Warner, owner of NECC interest. Craig's done it in the past.

We've got some great ideas that should be voted on. I'm going to speak to Craig soon and get his input on how he can help. Anyway, some ideas are:

1. One day outing on a lake of choice
2. One day "contest" on land, awards etc.
3. One day on land, next day lake outing.
4. Incorporate a "charity event" with NECC
5. #3 and #4 combined

Really we have a great opportunity to have a great time, give back to the community, put Correct Craft Fan on the map and Craig might sell a boat or two. Win win situation that involves planning and commitments now. July ideally is the nicest month, maybe second week. I've got some great locations in mind that I'll post. Who in our community is more than interested in the event? Please start posting and I'll be in touch with Keith.

Thanks,

Ken

Definately interested and the dates sound good. The one day event I could most likely swing. I am about 1/2hr north of NECC. Sounds like it will be a blast!!

If you can keep it fairly close to the Mass Turn pike I could get up there for a weekend event this summer... still trying to talk myself into going to Green Lake but its a long drive from NY and most likely going to be way too nice of days to be driving a car and not a cc, here in NY we can't be wasting anything that even resembles a summer day...

Thanks for the replies thus far. I need more people to commit before we present this to NECC. Again, we've got many options here. Some people can make it a one day trip, some people can stay overnight. I will be a great time and something to look forward to.

Thanks,

My suggestion would be do a one day dry land event. Starting off simple will get this rally off the ground and then we can move to other things.

From past experince with in water events, just launching and cordinating the water part of the event will take up a big part of your day and not leave much time for other activities.

I would really prefer an in the water event. That's where these boats really shine. It would be frustrating seeing them sit on trailers. I don't expect a huge crowd, so logistically it shouldn't be too bad. Although I do concur with keeping it simple, and maybe on one-dayer would be the way to go. Early start, some skiing for those who so desire, then cookout and admire each others boats. Key ingredients: a ramp and a beach. Ken, any luck in finding that combination? Just some of my thoughts.

NECC I imagine is Craig from New England Correct Craft in Rochester, NH.

I would like to get our hulls wet too. Get some skiing, cruising etc. I'd like to see some of the older classic Nautiques run.

OK, so I will get to work on a nice beach to BBQ on and lake that will support all our boats at once. I will e-mail some links of possible locations, then we'll vote on it.

I'll still work on incorporating New England Correct Craft. They're an outstanding company that has a great sales/service team. Best place to bring your Nautique for service!!!

I agree with the in the water crowd, I have no plans on making my boat pretty until next winter and wouldn't really be excited about about pulling her out of the water and traveling somewhere for a show type event where the boat wouldn't even get wet. IMHO you have just got to hear the rumble to really appreciate these boats.

Do you think a crowd of CC boats will attract some attention? It will sound like Daytona on the lake!

Hey Guys,
I just added the http://www.correctcraftfan.com/reunions - Green Lake Reunion registration pages . I will add the NE Reunion once we have more information. Please note the dates of the Green Lake Reunion are 7/14-16. We need to pick a different weekend.

The guys who did all the work for the Green Lake reunion started with the lake than made sure to get the proper permit for the venue, contacted area lodging, and then hit up sponsors, including the nearest CC dealer.

T-shirts and CorrectCraftFan.com decals will be covered. Someone needs to track down a good location and then we can build up events, sponsors, etc.

Please let me know how else I can help.

Thanks,
-Keith

Lake Winnipesaukee is very ideal because of the size, beaches, resources, clean water, beauty etc, etc. It's too far for a one day trip for some. It's no problem for me because I boat in S. NH sometimes. NH has a lot of lakes, but distance is a factor. Are people willing to spend money for a motel/hotel for the night? This is another reason why I need to know who's serious about this reunion and how far are people willing to travel. I'm very dedicated to boating, so I'm not concerned about travel.

I hope to get some more feedback. NH is a great place for boating. Mashpee / Wakeby at Cape Cod is extremely nice, but distance/traffic?

The in water event is a nice idea and sounds good but finding a lake with a nice ramp and big enough beach with enough accomadations that is going to make everyone happy with the travel distance is going to be tough. Also you might have to get state permits and licenses to put on such an event depending on were you have it and how big it is.

Any suggestions?

CC does all of their Reunions as a dry land event because of the lake, ramp, beach, and having accomadations that can handle the crowd.

Keith,

We should talk about this. Maybe we have a couple of events. Obviously, we'd like everyones input to have the best time possible.

Here's my suggestion:

We have a very informal, fun gathering at a lake central to everyone. Again, this requires knowing where everyone is driving from. Day out on the lake, beach, food etc.

The second event we can team up with the folks at New England Correct Craft in Rochester, NH. This will be a land event where fellow members, Correct Craft customers and locals can walk around and look at our boats. Keith and I can work on getting some ski equipment vendors. We can have a BBQ and some other events.

Two events in one summer would be something to look forward to. I'll e-mail some lakes and locations that I know of for our day out on the lake. The second event would be in Rochester, New Hampshire.

Ken,

Appreciate the effort you are putting into this. I know Cochituate is your home lake, so we have the advantage of you knowing it and all it offers. Sounds like it might have all we want (beach we can pull up on, ramp, course) As close as it is to Boston and the fact that it is pretty much in downtown Natick, does it get overwhelmingly crowded on weekends? I like the idea that it is central, even though it isnt one of the big beautiful NH lakes. Might get more folks from western MA and I'm sure Jeff would be willing to make the trip down. It may fill our needs quite well.
It would be nice if we could work in some of what NECC is talking about at a site like this. I know he is leaning toward a bigger, more organized, more formal, out of water event, and understand his thinking, but as a few have expressed, there is an interest in being out on the water. One event would be nice, but if it takes two...

Just some of my opinions. Let's hear what others think.

Larry,

Thanks for your feedback. Natick is central to most everyone. It's two minutes from the Mass. Turnpike. This lake has much to offer. Sometimes, the Natick Army Labs makes a one-time exception for the Ski Club to launch at their facility. The advantage of this is, the ramp is nicer and we wouldn't have to drive through a very small tunnel to get to the ski lake. Only one of the three lakes can be used for skiing.

Again, the out of water event would be separate. Great opportunity to meet more Correct Craft owners. We'll see what the rest of the folks think. Nothing wrong with getting together twice!

Perhaps a larger out of the water event NECC coordinated on a saturday, with an optional more correctcraftfan.com based in the water event on the next day. Don't need to be exactly in the same area, although an hour or so away would be nice. I would be traveling 5-6 hours to get there and I wouldn't mind seeing a dry land show I just wouldn't make a special trip for it, however combine that with the opportunity to get together after the dryland event for a few beverages and the chance to get wet the next day and it would be a heck of a reason. Again the second day could be more of a word of mouth less organized take care of yourself type of situation to take a little of the planning burden off. Just my 2 cents.

Ken,
I didn't realize Lake Cochituate was your 'home lake'. I actually work in Framingham. We should try to work out a regular lunch time ski this summer.

If possible, I'd rather work on one date to get the greatest attendance. Like the Green Lake reunion, if we have a critical mass of people and/or boats, we can get interest from sponsors and make it a really cool event with giveaways, demo boats, etc. However, if that doesn't work out, we could do two smaller events.

My only issue with Lake Cochituate SP is weekend traffic. I know that's an issue at most lakes in NE but if we could find a place that's a little more out of the way and on a little bigger lake, we would have less compet*tion for space in the parking lot, on the lake and at the BBQ pits.

What I would like to do is contact the State Parks offices for ME, NH, VT, and/or CT (a difficult thing to do this time of year) to see if they have a recommended state park on a lake that could accommodate us and then reserve their 'group facility'.

May be we could split up the states (each take one) and try to some info and then report back to the group?

-Keith

Joe,

A little of topic, but since seeing your posts, I've meant to comment. I'm originally from central ny. During the summer of 1975 (ok I realize it was the year before you were born)when I was in college, I worked for a summer stock theater company at the Springside Inn Dinner theater in Auburn. Lot of fun. The owner even took us all over to his lakeside home once for some water skiing. No one else could do much so they were infinitely impressed when I took a lap with my girlfriend on my shoulders.

Keith,

Point well taken. Although the past couple of years, the traffic has let up a little. As long as your there by 11:00AM on a weekend, you're all set.

So, this brings us to travel commitment. NH/ME boarder isn't unreasonable. Joe has the longest drive of us all. Keith, have you ever gone to Indian Lake in Worcester or Webster Lake in Webster? On the flip side, the lake in Milton, NH looks decent. I'll check it out this weekend. Craig recommended it. Plus, it's by NECC so a two day event would be perfect. This would be our greatest opportunity for vendors or special guests to attend. You're right, if we're going to do it, let's aim high. A hotel will probably be $89.00-$99.00 in NH.

Yes Keith, let's get together for some skiing this summer. I keep my boat in Natick.

Let's keep the ideas flowing!

75,
My camp is about three miles south of the Springside Inn. Owasco lake is still not exactly a skiing mecca. My cousins tell me there was an active club at one point, all I know is the jump and the course were removed about two years after I learned to ski about(83-84) and there hasn't been much of a serious skiing scene present since then. That is also about the time my friend Dave Bowen finished work on his ski pond over in weedsport about 6 miles away, if I ever feel the need to tackle a course thats where I will head. You can still have a very good time during the week and on mornings and weekends on Owasco though, every now and then I have to leave the skiboat home and pull out the catamaran if its too windy. Its a great life when the water isn't solid.

Hey guys,
Just checking in on some of the latest info that's being posted.
Keith's got it right - weekend traffic is the norm on almost any lake being talked about (Thats why mine sits on the trailer so much!).
Just wanted to let ya know I've used Wallum Lake quite a bit. Very nice lake, pretty good sized State Park Area (Beach, Picnic tables, etc.) But, again, very crowded on weekends (I used to hit it after work during the week).
I believe that they close down the ramp/trailer parking after a certain number (might be around 20-25?) and then you need to wait in line to get into the park until someone leaves. The in-water parking might also be a problem because I think you can only pull up at a limited area. Just wanted to let ya know about this one. But keep em coming, I'm adding to my list of lakes to check out!

One other thing I just thought about -
Quite a few years ago I went to see a barefoot tournement at an "army corp of engineers dam site" somewhere over in the Webster Lake area.
If I remember right it had a large grassy area and the boats could pull up to it. I don't know if this has public access or not.
Anyone know about this area???

Ok, many responses across the mighty CCF thread. Here's my vote:

Two-day, big reunion involving one full day in the water, beach, skiing, BBQ, etc. One full day to team up with New England Correct Craft and have a land event. I won't be able to get specifics on Correct Craft's involvement until I get a commitment count and location. The land event is probably when Keith and I can get the vendors involved. I'll work on getting hotel rates for Southern NH (Milton). Any other location much further that that, we'll lose an opportunity with NECC. In the meantime, jump on mapquest to judge your distance to Milton, NH. I'll also call the town to get more details on that park.

We are on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, next town over from Sanford Maine. Milton N.H. is the next 2 towns over. I know that Mousam can get busy at the public launch, but the local marina has a ramp w/parking for at least 50 I would say. The lake also has a public beach area owned by the Mousam Lake Region Association where my neighbor is the VP. I might be able to see what the marina will do as well as possibly using the beach and roping it off to swimmers. They hold yearly fishing derbys there as well and can hold quite a few boats. There is also a store right there. Its also close for NECC. I can investigate if anyone is interested. Distance wise isnt too bad because the lake is 50% Mass people Id say. My neighbor lives in Melrose Mass. and comes up every weekend (he is the VP). Its also VERY EASY for everone to find. Hop off   you run into the lake. Keith is also familiar where he goes to Limerick Maine.
I am not too picky on where we do it, I just want to put these boats in the water and get my feet wet while shooting the breeze. If theres any interest, Im willing to do some research 4 ya guys. At any note, anyplace, in a reasonable distance, Im there!

If you don't mind, please check with the marina and your friend. That is the kind of 'connection' we need. Mousam is a great lake and close to NECC. I plan to talk to NECC this week.

Thanks,
-Keith

Ken,

Indian lake is not a bad lake. Its not that big, about a half a mile long by quarter mile wide. 3.1 miles circumference. The launch is located at Morgan Park. Ive never had a problem launching the boat. Traffic on the lake hasnt been bad in the last couple of years. In the past theyve held hydroplane races and jetski races on the lake at shore park which has facilties, a beach, plenty of parking.

Ken,

The only place to stay away from is the cove by the launch. Its shallow in there but navigable. After you launch go to the main body of water. Everything out there is fine (i stay about 100 feet from shore).

Keith,

Let me know when you speak to Craig. Are you going to the boat show in Boston? NECC is there every year. They've got the nicest display in my opinion.

I'll be in NH tomorrow. I'm going to see if I can check out the two lakes in question.

Hey Stang - Make sure you guys take plenty of pictures of your reunion as we will too.

Hey Mike,

Glad to see you found us on correctcraftfan.com. We're in the process of pulling this reunion together. Keith, the founder of this site is helping too. Mousam Lake is one of our choices. We're also looking at Milton, NH. Craig at NECC will jump in as soon as we lock in the number of people attending, date and location. I want to say that we've gotten closer to the location, now we need an accurate head-count and date. July is a toasty time of year. What can you tell us about Mousam Lake? Decent beach? Can you pull your boat up on the beach? Clean water? BBQ area?

Stay tuned to this site for more info.

Hey 05 210, we are located on the Shapleigh side of the lake about 1000 feet down from the public beach. Mousam Lake is the lake that made national news about the "Hot Dog" lady at the public beach last year. Its a very clean lake, the beach is all sand with a exception for a single rock on one edge. There is a parking lot opposite the beach. They even put in a porta-potty at the beach.
I will check with my neighbor (VP of the association) and get his input. I know that he would love something like this and would probably tell me to bring everyone over for a cookout!
    I will keep everyone posted.

Well guys, I had dinner with our friends(neighbors)and hate to say it, but I dont think the public beach on Mousam is going to fly easily. The association owns it, but its a public swim area where it might be tough to "block off" to the general public. It would have to go out front of the board, and someone like Keith would have to present it. I know with all the hassles with everyone and the "Hot dog Lady" episode, Im not sure if they want to get involved.
Thought about combining his place and ours, but there wouldnt be enough room for more than a few boats at the docks, and wouldnt be good for NECC.
The only thing I have not tried is to see is what the Marina had to offer. Its certainly not going to be a beach, but they do have a 90 foot dock that might hold some. This whole thing depends on how many boats/people are going to attend.

Hey guys, finally got my power back after that crazy wind on friday.Anyway,I wondered about the whole"public beach"thing on mousam. The marina may work, but it's hard to tell how many slips he will have rented from year to year,so dock space may be an issue.I'm not overly familiar with Milton 3 Ponds, but I did fish a bass tournament there last year.We launched at the public beach and it was ok at 6am,but it got really hectic after the tournament because the beach was open.I believe the beach opens at 9 am and you have to pay to launch(not sure). You can pull boats up on the shore by the launch, but I remember it being gravel, not sand, and it gets really crowded.Craig Warner keeps a boat at the marina on Northeast Pond and may have some pull there.Looks like we may be experiencing first hand why he is recommending a dry event.Sorry for the long post, just stuff that keeps coming to mind.

What about having a dry event, like Craig suggested, at his place in Rochester.

If Craig could put a couple of his boats in the marina at 3 ponds, like he does for his demo days, folks could take turns driving over and take a spin behind one of his boats.

Maybe Craig could even sell a boat or two. (Not that sales should be the focus of the event, but if Craig could benefit from this... More power to him.)

Just thinking out loud...

Date Posted: February-20-2006 at 8:59am
Ideally, the two-day event would be the best solution. I'm going to track down Craig this week. He should be at the boat show in Boston.

There's also the lake in Milton, NH. I know we all prefer a sandy spot to pull our boats on. The gravel isn't too fiberglass friendly.

I'll speak to Craig and get back to you all. He might be able to shead some more light for us. Keep the ideas coming!

I think as far as NECC goes, it will probably be a dry run, unless they have a place that we dont know about. After that, it would be cool for those who wanted to drop their boat in and go for cruise. I still dream of the idea of having a CC convoy of all of us, turning some serious heads with the noise and the looks!! Waiting and seeing what NECC does is a good thing.

John,

I wanted to keep the '80 and purchase my '86 too. My wife didn't see it my way. The '80 treated me well. I did the basic tune-ups over the years. It started the first time, everytime!! It didn't burn oil or skip a beat. It pulled me barefoot with four people in the boat w/o straining. Topped out at 42 MPH on police radar. Out-accelerated my friends '82, 2001 SN.

It had two solid stripes on the side, which is unusual for a '80. I'll e-mail more pictures to this thread. Oh, I bought it from a friend in 1996 for $5,500 and sold it in 2002 for $5,700. I miss it!

FYI, the reason I sold my '80 was to seat more people. I didn't have a rear seat. The '86 has a little more room and thicker seats.

The only minor complaint about my '80 was the rooster tail from 28-33 MPH. What a monster. Made skiing a challenge. Goose it to 38-40 and it leveled out. Not a good speed for slalom.

Ken; When those boats were new, we really had no idea what could be done for the wake. Now-a-days of course its a different story. My last boat was a '03 206 open bow. Great boat, lots of room, great performance, lots of storage, lots of seats, blah blah, blah. When I started it no one looked. With the '80 all I gotta do is pull onto the ramp and I draw a crowd. Not to mention when I start her up (no mufflers). Of course I'm 55 and talk about what a good skier I used to be more than ski hard. So I quess it is all in what you are looking for. Wow, long post for me. Sorry.

I spoke with Craig (NECC) at the boat show yesterday. He expressed interest in our event, but doesnt have the time to help with the major planning, which is understandable.

My opinion is that a mostly dry event would be much easier to coordinate. Of course, having the event near the water would still make it possible to go for a cruise afterwards!

We can begin our event with our friends at NECC. We can make it simple at first. We'll all meet, check each others boats out, have a great BBQ, etc. Towards the end of our day, we can depart to the lake. We have enough light until about 8:30PM. Maybe get there around 5:00PM when parking is better. Still enough time to ski, cruise, etc.

Day two, beach, skiiing, boarding etc. is still an option here. There are reasonable hotels in the area.

July 8-9 would be great dates to lock-in. Many people are off that week too.

Craig at NECC won't have to put much effort behind the organizing. Our task is to confirm the location, dates and head-count. We can organize the food and beverages. If Craig can find us a nice area to park our boats and BBQ, that would be great. I'm sure he'll have one of his new Nautiques there.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the work to date. I say let's shoot for both a dry and in-water event. It could be a morning/afternoon or it could bridge two days. The Green Lake guys have worked in some water time and I think that will really make the event special. We can make it happen.

It looks like an option is to have the dry event is at NECC's new location off Rt. 125 in NH. That narrows down area for the lakes but there is still plenty of lakes to choose from. Let's do some more digging. If there are public beaches, we can obtain a permit through the town.

Once we have a location and date, we can start the registrations.

NECC's new location is very nice. Large parking lot, easy access from highway and on a main road for maximum exposure. The lake in Milton, NH is close too. We're getting closer to a decision here. Who knows, maybe somebody will trade up while we're there. Bring your checkbook!

Again, day one could start out on land and end up in the water late day. Day two can be all about the water.

Thanks for the update, Keith!

I wandered by NECC about 1.5 hours after you, acc. to Craig. We also spoke for a while but in more general terms than get-together specifics. Let me know what you guys talked about.

Some nice boats there, huh? The tricked out boarding boats everyone (malibu, MC, Moomba-Supra, Tige, CC) had were all pretty amazing weren't they, but in my mind you still can't beat the looks or lines of the closed bow comp boat, I think Craig had the only one in the show.

Loved the '06 Nautique closed bow he had there. I enjoy the look of the graphics. Always been a fan of that letter font.

I'll type up a recap of my conversation with Craig. We'd like to get everyone involved, even the kids. I'm going to get Fred, NECC's service manager in a dunk tank. The kids and adults will love it. Fred's a good guy, he just came into mind when we discussed the tank. The awards and judges sounds good to.

Keep your thoughts coming Larry.

Summary of conversation with Craig:

We can use his parking lot at NECC.

Knows somebody who can bring the food and cook...obviously we'll each kick in.

Knows judges who can evaluate our boats for awards.

Will invite some of his vendors. NECC sells ski equipment.

Will call Correct Craft in FL to get some prizes and give-aways.

Post sign and ballons by their gate to attract locals.

Invite kids to come and participate in fun events. "dunk the service manager"

Have a engine service seminar.

Facilities are right there.

Two local hotels available

Milton Town Beach 10 miles away. Sandy beach, grills, parking, good size lake. We can have food delivered there too.

Craig's excited about our rally. Sounds like we'll all have a great time. With all that written, can each of you e-mail a "Yes" or "No" for a commitment. Keith will have an official registration soon. July 8th and 9th is what I'm shooting for.

Thanks,

Ken

Winter just won't seem to go away. It's difficult talking about BBQ's, skiiing, fun in the sun, etc. when it's 8 degrees out, wind chill -20.

Anyway, I'd like to keep our rally topic alive. I'm going to look into hotel rates for those of you who'd like to make it a two day event. I'll go through the thread again to see who's attending. As the weather warms up and we summerize our boats, I'm sure we'll have more motivation. I would like to give Craig a head-count. This will determine whether he can get vendors to attend and show their latest products. Also, he's going to get some items from Correct Craft in FL to give away.

Thanks!

Ken

Craig's excited about our rally. Sounds like we'll all have a great time. With all that written, can each of you e-mail a "Yes" or "No" for a commitment. Keith will have an official registration soon. July 8th and 9th is what I'm shooting for.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken, all of the events you mention sound great. Who should the email be directed to?

You can post a yes on this thread. I'm going back to the beginning to capture and re-post all the "Yes" people. As time goes on, we'll pick up more people. I'm happy as a clam that NECC is participating. We'll have a great time. You have one of the newest boats, Tim.
Good mix of vintage boats so far. Wonder who's quickest to 40MPH?

Thanks for your reply,

Ken

I am bringing at least one, but being at NECC, then I might see if I can get them both there where it is reasonably close. So Im in unless I get called out for a disaster (like a 911 dispatch center going dead). Im also looking just as forward on hearing these babies run.

Well I finally got my new roller rockers and am ready to install my new heads, I am still a few years away from being a contender in terms of how she looks but I am hoping the heads get me closer to being a contender on the water, and those that are faster.. I want a ride. Looking forward to it all keep putting in the effort and let me know if there is anything I can do here from afar. ..
