I have been an Oakley guy for years now. I had 2 sets of Wires done in Prescription 10 years ago. I bought a Matco tools franchise last spring and needed safety glasses in some of the shops. Long story short .. Off to get my eyes fixed. Surgery was cheaper than replacing every pair of glasses I had. Best part is I am an Authorized Oakley Distributor so the case has a few more pairs in it these days.. Crankshaft, and X Wire are probably my 2 favorites these days.

I prefer the AO over the ray bans. they come in cheaper too. and a few different lanse options as well as the ear piece option. you can buy everything seperate also.
they are also made right here in MAss
http://www.aoeyewear.com/shop.html

When you add in everything(gold frame $4, cable temples $18) they end up being $113 so no real savings

sorry i linked the AO website directly but I have always bought from AO dealers and have never spent over $60 for a pair, I have gold frames with bayonett with green lenses, and gold frames with hook ears and true color lenses. if you have a military ID or a friend you can get great deals on them on a Base that carries them. I got my last set off amazon.
But yes if you price out from them directly its not much mroe of a bargain.

sunglasses are one thing i think it's a good idea to spend money on...i'm a big fan of Smith sunglasses...polarized is a must...and the more words used to describe the lenses the better...currently, mine are polaraized bronze mirror chroma-pop...they inevitably meet a tragic end after a couple years...but, well worth it...
As far as I can tell, I'm not quite sure...

At our club this morning I left my Oakleys in the the boat and the 2nd shift crew came in to start their set. Once I realized the glasses were out in the boat with them I thought about leaving them in there just briefly, then hopped in a paddle boat and paddled my way out there to get them! Added an additional 35 min and a lot of cardio to my morning but I can't chance it! Funny.

I have one pair of prescription sunglasses in my car, and another pair on the bottom of the lake. Only cheap non prescription in the boat now. Best to keep some distance at Green Lake.

I am a Maui Jim guy mainly because they fit my big head. It would be hard to switch at this point even thought hey are pricey. I did break one of the ear pieces and sent it in with $10 and they sent it back in a new case all fixed up.

HAHAHA

I'm a big fan of the $15 polarized Foster Grants at the local Walgreens. I've had several nice pairs of Anarchys and Oakleys in the past and they always end up scratched, sat on, or at the bottom of the lake. Somehow I manage to keep a cheap pair for years...

LOL same here. Jackie got me some floating wood frame sunglasses for Christmas and I lost them somewhere in Winter Haven before New Years... And just last night I left some 3M tinted safety glasses on Mars '01 and left with Maddox's sunglasses.

Group me in with HW. Local lakes have two pairs of Ray-Bans and a pair of Oaks....$500 in the bottom of the lake so I go the cheap route and get a polarized pair from where ever. Do own a nice pair of Oaks that were given to be as a B-Day gift under strict guidelines that they were NOT to be used in the boat. That was two Kims ago but I still adhere to that rule. I keep them and my Aviators in the tow vehicle.

Love the Polarized glasses for the reasons above but yeah they suck when using a smart phone like Scott said. Cheap pair usually have the floaty croaky strap on them.

Why is it though that I have have the same cheap pair of glasses for a couple years? In the water rafting up, tying up boats, leaning over the side picking up skis and they've yet to fall off my head but within a month after buying good expensive ones.......Ploop...off they go into the deep brown abyss!

You guys suck. I wish I could still buy off the shelf sunglasses. Had to switch to Rx about 15 years ago. Between the wife and I we have spent a small fortune on Rx Maui Jim's and Ray Bans. Although lately instead of buying the manufacturers lenses I just purchased glasses on ebay then sent them to this place for Rx lenses. I paid about $100 for new Maui Jims on ebay and about $150 for lenses. $250 hurts much less than $650.

Rx lenses

They do an excellent job on the lenses and you can order lots of different options. The last pair I got are glass/polarized/mirrored. Still like the Maui Jim lenses but not sure they are worth an extra $400.

Hope this link helps when you guys get old and have a bunch of cool sunglasses that you can't see out of.

Oakleys for years since like like Zach I got them at cost. I've probably got 10 pair spread around: the office, truck, house, and lakehouse. But, since that well dried up a few years ago I got a pair of costa's and a pair of RB wayfarers. I like the fit of my costa's the best but my wife does to so I don't see them often. I'm OCD about glasses so I've had many of my oakleys for the better part of a decade.

Moral of all this giberish: Oakley and Costa are about even for me.
