What is the maximum number of people or seating capacity for the 90-96 Ski Nautique?

Why only 6? Doesn't the 2001 hull hold 9?

haha no way! I mean, you could probably get 9 dead bodies in there if thats why you are asking but for any other application there will be alot of complaining. There is only seating for 6 including the driver. No open bow.

Plus, the weight capacity is only a little over a thousand anyway.

Anyone ever see the capacity plate in an 80s pro star?

Joe is correct on the 90-96 capacity. 6 people or 1280 lbs, IIRC.
I think a late 80's MC says 8 people or 1050 lbs, or somewhere thereabouts. Not sure where they would sit, those boats are even smaller than a 2001 on the inside. As far as the weight capacity goes, maybe MC owners are really skinny? |

The new one, which is presumably larger, holds 7:
http://www.mastercraft.com/boats/overview/ps190 Can't imagine it ever held 9. |

Didnt you already get an answer to that question? No, the 2001 is not rated for 9 people. I believe it lists the same 6 person capacity as the NWZ hull. Yes, you can physically fit more people in it. But not in a manner that the manufacturer or USCG would consider "safe". How would you go about putting 9 people in a 2001? 5 across the back, 3 in the observer seat and the driver? Not normal sized people. You'd have to put some on the floor or motorbox. Those are not considered "proper" seats. |

Maybe the Mcs have dry foam and can float better?

I've had 6 normal sized adults and 3 young childen in my 91 Prostar 190. It's rated for 9 people, although it was not as roomy as when I have my usual load of 5, there was plenty of room. It helps to keep the bigger kids out in the water on tubes, skis, boards, etc. I'm currently looking to purchase a 93 Ski Nautique and was disappointed to find out it's only rated for 6. This could sway my decision to go with something different. Although it's rare to have 9 people in my boat, it's an option I like having.

You understand you are overloaded with 9 people right?

You might be right. I should have stated likely. The reason I say that is the '91 Mactercraft Prostar manual states 1350lb or 8 persons. That allows for a average pasenger weight of 169lbs with no ice chests, gear, equipment, ballast, or any aftermarket modifications. I'll play advocate and say that may be the your case, but you also stated "it keeps the big kids out in the water" on toys. Again I may be wrong, and if so, stand corrected.

Maybe you'd be better off buying a pontoon boat if you are most concerned with how many people you can fit on your boat.

I was considering two of the bigger kids as average size adults. My two boys 14, 12 average 5'9" and 140lbs. I'm laughing about the pontoon comment, no thanks. Don't usually load down the MC but every now and then it happens. Seriously though I just sold my 84 SN 2001 last summer and couldn't remember what the passenger capacity was.

Nice boat Bret. Curious, why did you sell the 96 SN and go with the larger Sport? My guess is you wanted more room for more people? Lol

the seating layout on my 2001 is the same as a prostar and I cant imagine having 9 midgets in my boat. I dont care if the label says 20. If you have 8 people in that boat and you get pulled over they are gonna give you a ticket. They can add up a bunch of stuff gear, anchor, coolers, you will be over 1300lbs.
apparently correct craft was a little more realistic with the capacity label or mastercrap jammed every inch of that boat with foam. |

Exactly. A 1990-1993 Ski Nautique is significantly roomier inside than a 1991-1994 Prostar 190, regardless of what the capacity plate reads. I guess I dont understand the question. |

Oh you guys and your crazy safety concerns… My 14 foot 60’s mirrocraft is glorified rowboat and it has a 1400 lb capacity no passenger limitations besides that limit, times and standards change. The coast guard standards allowed the manufacturer quite a bit of leeway in establishing those numbers. If you calculated based on the Length and width of the boat you ended up with a pretty large number of people (like 8 or 9). This is very comparable to a similarly sized hull bowrider and 18 footer typically is rated at 8 passengers, a 19 footer 10. Mastercraft chose to use that number, correctcraft apparently applied a little reality and said hey we only have seats for 6. If you look at the 80/90s era boats the CC clearly is capable of handling more weight safely. It does bust my balls a bit because I have regularly fit 8 good sized adults in my boat for a restaurant run yes 4 across the back and 3 on the passenger seat (sometimes maybe one in the lap of the driver, but that is purely for keeping warm purposes) and there is no real danger involved in doing so except the danger of getting a ticket… I don’t see how you can fault CC for being realistic. And the foam content has nothing to do with the rated capacity.

That's my point. If I want to load my 93 SN with 8 people and it creates no safety concerns then why should I worry about getting a ticket just because the capacity plate says 6? If I take the same 8 out in my 91 Prostar there's no worries about getting a ticket? Doesn't make logical sense.

I know it may be obvious may be not but I think most of you are aware that what people you have behind your boat count against the capacity plate in the boat.
The DNR looks the other way for our ski team but we like to follow the rules when we're not practicing. Our Twin-Rig is OR so we are ok there but the Nautiques can get us in trouble if the DNR really wants to be mean to us. |

I dont think they look that close at the capacity plate. To them MC and Ski Nautiques are the same (I know crazy right). Im saying if they see 8 people in a ski boat and they want to be jerks you are getting a ticket either way.

True, but if your capacity plate says 6 and you have 7 then they'll definitely give you a ticket and in Tennessee it's $2500 fine and 6 months in jail. Not worth taking a chance to me. |

Do you believe any of the answers youve received in this thread now that theyve been confirmed by the Mastercraft guys?
FYI, Im sure youre aware that the most knowledgable guy over on the MC owns a Ski Nautique, right? |
