I have two small (very small) tears in the vinyl in my observer's seat and on my engine cover. These are just starting and are hardly noticible, but they are through the vinyl. What can I do NOW to stop them from spreading? Thank you!

A friend of mine, who doesn't own a boat, said I should just use a little dab of super glue to seal the small tear. I am considering pulling the engine cover off (that's where the tear is) and taking it to a vinyl shop. My guess is that they would pull the vinyl back and glue a patch behind the tear. Hasn't anybody ever faced this type of thing before? Thanks

I know this may seem like a wise guy answer but how about, "VINYL REPAIR" you know, just like I've seen on TVback in the 70's. Never tried it, has anyone???? Curious or is it just a waste of hard earned $$$$?

I had a small tear (1 inch)in the rear seat of a '92 Ski Nautique I once owned. I didn't want it to get worse and I had a boat dealer give me the name of a man that he said could repair it. He came over and used some kind of vinyl repair products to patch it and match the grain. He then used an airbrush to spray the vinyl to match. After he fixed it you couldn't even tell where it was. I kept the boat for 2 more years and never did have a problem with the repair and could never even tell it had been done. It can be done and done well. You may want to try some of the boat dealers in your area. They may have a vinyl repair guy. I think it cost me $50 but was well worth it.

Vinyl repair is one of those jobs that's really easy to make it look like you did it yourself. Next time I need to do it, I'll pay the $50 and have it done right.
